Ezra Decker
At 97 years of age Sugar Loaf resident Ezra Decker stood atop a
ladder repairing the north chimney of his double occupancy home.
It was 1985.
He did not fall.
Three years later Sugar Loaf would celebrate Ezra's 100th birthday;
then two years more and he would be gone.
After finishing the repair he descended to his front porch where he
regaled Mary Endico and Bob
Fugett with Sugar Loaf tales of a bygone century—now a second century past.
He also made the items below:

Mary Endico traded watercolors for these small wooden figures.
None are for sale.
We wouldn't let you buy
them even if they were.
Mary still keeps pencils in the pencil holder pig.
Ezra lived to 102 minus 2 months.
A newspaper article said 101, but we were told 106 by those
whom we thought would know, so we
split the difference at 103 until finally learning his actual age from his
granddaughter (Judith D Predmore) when she sent us the owl shown at the top of
this page.
Judith wrote (06/22/13):
Hi Bob,
My grandfather [Ezra] died just two months [shy] of turning
102. I don't know if you know, that he is buried in Warwick Cemetery in the
Decker family plot along with his sons, daughter, mother and wife (over the
years he had three wives).
Besides myself there is also my brother, Stanleigh Planson.

It had been just another standard misrepresentation of the Sugar Loaf
state of affairs.
Now somebody new owns
his house.
